Nick Klase is a lighting industry veteran and the co-founder and CEO of Build My LED. Before launching Build My LED, Mr. Klase was the VP of Horticulture Lighting at a global LED manufacturing company, where he led a team focused on creating the world’s most efficient photosynthetic lighting systems. Prior to joining this company, Mr. Klase held a variety of management roles at Acuity Brands Lighting, which is the largest lighting company in North America. In 2010 he completed a nine-year tenure at Acuity Brands Lighting by serving as General Manager of Outdoor Controls, a position that included managing profit & loss operations for two business segments. Prior to becoming General Manager, he held management positions in Business Development, Margin Management and Strategic Pricing. He was a founding member of the Acuity Business System, the company’s lean manufacturing and continuous improvement program. The company’s most distinguished award, the Chairman’s Award, was presented to Mr. Klase in 2003. Mr. Klase received his MBA from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. He received a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Theology from Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

From kitchens to cars to aquariums, LED lighting is quickly replacing existing lighting technology on a global scale. The old rule of watts per gallon is no longer relevant, so aquarists need to understand the fundamentals of light to design successful and efficient lighting systems for their aquariums. This presentation will review the relevant facets of LED lighting for both freshwater and saltwater aquariums, including light quality (spectrum) and light quantity (PAR levels).
